I saw Liza with a Z in concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 29th June. Now I will be honest with you here, I wasn't sure how this was going to go as it's my lady who's really a Liza fan and I was just going along for the ride. Okay, Liza Minnelli is 65, has two false hips, a dodgy knee and struggles a bit to reach those high notes like she used to but there was something special about seeing her perform live on a London stage that sent a tingle down the old spine. She has that 'thing', you know, it's that wow factor thing, that magical presence and charisma thing that you just can't describe unless you see it and hear it. You can't buy it, you can't earn it, you just have it...and Liza with a Z has it in bucketloads. The audience absolutely adored her from the moment she came on stage to the moment she left it. True, she's not the singer she once was in her younger days but old don't mean bad, it means she's been there, done it all, got the tee shirt, has nothing left to prove and knows how to put on a spectacular show that will dazzle you and have you out of your seat clapping like crazy and shouting for more. A unique event from a unique performer at a unique venue. What a show!
A blog where you can read everyday stories from my nest about the life and times of a Sussex based Seagulls fan. I will post about almost anything...What's playing on my turntable today, Brighton and Hove Albion match reports, TV and concert reviews, the occasional political rant, family news and tales about living with Egg the manic cat. Fly into the Seagull's nest and tuck in.
